A Favorite Motif:
Once the box is constructed, you can decide on the most appropriate form of decoration. First, choose a background color and then perhaps add a motif, such as your child's favorite cartoon character, or use a stencilled design or even cut-outs from magazines or comics pasted down and then varnished to protect them.The chief glory of Scythian art is its splendid animal style, combining vigorous representation with decorative stylization. A favorite motif was the stag, probably revered as the bearer of souls to the underworld, and gold stags frequently decorated the shields of warriors. Great chieftains were buried with amulets, torques, and rings, many with colored inlay, and their costume was ornamented with gold plaques sewn to the material.
Phoenician-style fishing boats, equipped with bright lights, carry scores of fishermen over the shallow waters looking for octopi, which they catch with spears. Octopus (polpo) is a favorite fish delicacy. The Phoenician motif of the island is maintained in the name of Valletta's leading hotel, the Phoenicia, an excellent place which is the center of social, as well as tourist, life. At the opposite end of the social spectrum is an alley which local residents call "The Gut." For several blocks it is a double, unbroken row of dives, honkytonks, beer parlors, dancings, cabarets and dubious-looking hotels.
