Baroque Style Of Louis:

Baroque Style Of Louis Baroque style of Louis. The Baroque style of Louis style replaced the auricular style in mid-17th century. The Baroque style of Louis returned to symmetry, introducing big bulbous forms and an ornamental vocabulary of fruit, flowers, and animals, broadly rendered in high relief, usually by embossing, a favorite technique in an age of economic recession, when the maximum effect was sought from thin silver.

Rococo. Classical Baroque style of Louis modulated into a lighter, more playful style in the early 1700's, and this trend culminated in the rococo style about 1725. Unlike classical Baroque style of Louis, rococo prefers asymmetry and searches for swirling movement and rich surface animation. Rococo is primarily an ornamental style, and the apparently irregular appearance of a rococo object is often found to be a matter of decoration, not of underlying form. The favorite decorative motifs are naturalistic.

Yet more expensive work was still cast, and finely chased cast work is typical of the silverwork produced in Paris, which, from 1660 until 1760, set the style in the goldsmiths' work. From the 1670's the exuberance of Baroque style of Louis in France is chastened, and a classical Baroque style of Louis style appears in which the architectural elements are severely and simply treated; ornament in this style is restricted to a few motifs—the gadroon, the lambrequin, the acanthus—often cast and applied, making much use of bold contrasts between plain surfaces and surfaces in relief.
