Beautiful Wood:
Wood furniture of improved designs and increased utility is an important market. Numerous types are available, such as solid wood, decorative veneers, straight and molded plywood, and composites or combinations of wood with paper, metal, ceramics, and plastics.Laminated wood construction is a modern development. Small straight or curved pieces or strips of wood are glued together lengthwise to form arches and rafters of beautiful design for roofs of auditoriums, churches, athletic arenas, barns, and other buildings. Impreg, a form of laminated wood treated with resin to eliminate shrinking and swelling, is used in making die models for automobile parts. Compreg, another resin-treated wood, can be pressed and molded to produce an attractive glossy finish that withstands scratching.The glittering feather moss (Hypnum [Pleurozium] splendens) is a beautiful combination of gold, and green leaves on red stems. And the last moss on Janet's rock has the most romantic common name of all: the triangular wood-reveller (Hylocomnium tri-quetrum). This particular moss grows only on wood with a luxuriant delight that led to the term, reveller. It was collected in a nearby wood and placed on the rock in a crevice that holds its wooden base. Triangular refers to the shape of the stems.
There are no new pieces in this room and this is what gives it its countrified charm. The old pine Dresser base was stripped to reveal beautiful wood while the 1920s dining Table has a deeper, varnished glow. An old church chair, complete with hymn book pocket, adds further character, while a selection of baskets create storage space and tone in with the wood perfectly.
