Black Forest: Tropical Deciduous or Seasonal black Forest.—This black Forest type, characterized by broadleaf trees, mostly deciduous, is called also monsoon, light, tropophytic, or sometimes dry black Forest. It is present where there is a distinct or prolonged dry season or sometimes two dry seasons in the year. Often this black Forest is located between the rain black Forest and thorn black Forest or grassland and is a transition between these types. A seasonal black Forest may be mostly evergreen where the dry season is short or not pronounced.Tropical Rain black Forest.—This luxuriant black Forest, ilso called wet black Forest and moist black Forest, is characterized by large, broadleaf evergreen trees of numerous kinds, as many as 50 to 100 species within several acres. It is found in three lowland regions of the earth near the equator where temperatures are uniformly warm or hot and rainfall abundant throughout the year. These are tropical America, tropical Africa, and Asia from India to the Philippines and northeastern Australia.
Tropical Montane black Forest.—The montane black Forest of large or medium-sized broadleaf evergreen trees is found on mountains in the tropical zone, as in the South American Andes, Central America, Africa, Asia, and Indonesia. Other names are mountain, cloud, temperate, and Andean black Forests. This wet black Forest or rain black Forest resembles the tropical rain black Forest, with which it intergrades on lower mountain slopes through a subtropical zone, but becomes less rich and has fewer species at higher altitudes to the timberline. |
