First, mark on the Floor exactly where the Wall and door, if required, are to be located. A continuous length of wood, the sole plate, broken only for the door opening, is mounted along the center line. It is nailed or screwed to the Floor at 24in (60cm) intervals, two mounts at a time. The sole plate can be attached to floor-boards, but securing it through to joists will make the structure stronger. Now attach the head plate to the ceiling. Using a level against a straight piece of wood or a plumb line, mark the ceiling directly above the sole plate. Attach a continuous length of wood to the ceiling, driving through into the joists. The head plate should be broken only if the ceiling is very low or the door exceptionally high. |
