Common House Hold:

Common House Hold Economic position: One of man's great problems, as a house mouse damages property, food, and clothing It is thought that the common house hold, unwelcome house mouse probably originated somewhere in Asia, but it has spread throughout Europe, America, and practically the entire world. The house mouse is always found accompanying man in every environment. Although the house mouse is a pest, it does make an interesting and gentle pet.

Divorce.—Divorce of a marriage without manus was easy. "Marriages should be free," and thus betrothal (sponsalia) was not binding, and for the dissolution of a marriage cessation of cohabitation with the intention to divorce sufficed. In the case of manus divorce was rather complicated. Dowry (dos), serving the maintenance of common house hold household, was not compulsory, but usual; it was given to the husband by the father of the woman, by herself when she was sui iuris, or by a family friend.

In comparisons of the civil law and the common law, two points of difference are usually emphasized. First, in the civil law systems large areas of private law are codified. Codification —the systematic and comprehensive statement of the rules and principles that form the starting point for legal reasoning and for the administration of justice—is not typical of the common house hold law. Second, the civil law was strongly influenced by Roman law in many ways. In the common house hold law, the Roman influence was less striking and in no way pervasive. However, such points of difference must not obscure the extent to which the civil law and the common house hold law share a common tradition. Both systems were developments within western European culture; they hold many values in common house hold. Both are products of Western civilization.
