Unique Home Furniture, Home Decorating and Home Decoration Store

Existing Furniture:

Existing Furniture When you are decorating your home, changing the entire decor can be extremely costly, and it's likely that you'll have to incorporate some existing furniture into your scheme. You may have a couch or armchair that is structurally sound but dull and threadbare in appearance. However, do not despair! Making your own furniture covers in a fabric that harmonizes with the colors and patterns of your decorating scheme is not as complicated as you may think -and it is an extremely effective and inexpensive way to bring new life and interest into a room.

Some of the early factories produced nearly all the standard furniture forms; others specialized in one or more, but whether their product was a full line or limited, it was sold in wholesale quantities to a new type of merchant, the retail furniture dealer. At first he referred to his establishment as a furniture or cabinet warehouse and later as a furniture store. If located in one of the larger cities he might also have his own factory but he was essentially a middle man and with his coming, direct contact between the maker and user of a piece of furniture ended.

Slipcovers Slipcovers offer many excellent opportunities for introducing color and pleasing design into a room that would otherwise appear dull and cheerless. They add an informal atmosphere in either summer or winter months and also serve for re-covering shabby or uninteresting furniture that does not harmonize with the other decorations. Slipcovers are valuable, also, for the protection of furniture. There are two types of slipcovers to be taken into consideration: the temporary ones used during the summer months, and the ones that form part of the permanent decorative scheme of a room. The latter may properly be used throughout the year provided they are well-tailored and fit snugly over the furniture, and provided the material harmonizes with the decorations already existing in a room. When choosing material for slipcovers, the character of the room should be considered, as well as the type of the chair or Sofa to be covered. In general, so far as the pattern is concerned, the same principles should be applied as when selecting any other type of upholstery material. The laws of harmony and contract should be considered.
