Family Of Plants Usually:

Family Of Plants Usually Almost one fourth of the earth's vegetation cover is in grasslands—the great prairies and plains of North America, the extensive pampas of South America, the steppes of Asia, and the velds of Africa. At least 7,000 species of grasses are known. The grass family of plants usually (Gramineae) is outranked in number of species only by four other families-the bean family of plants usually (Leguminosae), daisy family of plants usually (Compositae), coffee family of plants usually (Rubiaceae) and orchid family of plants usually (Orchidaceae). But in numbers of individual plants spread over the globe, the grasses are unsurpassed. They have a wider range than any other plant family of plants usually except for lichens and algae.

Under this natural classification all species of pines are grouped together in the pine genus, Pinus, for example. Pines and related genera, such as spruces, firs, and hemlocks, compose the pine family of plants usually (Pinaceae). This and related families make up the conifers or softwoods, classed with the gymnosperms (plants with naked seeds). Most tree species are hardwoods, being classified as dicotyledons (palms and bamboos are monocotyledons) and as flowering plants or angiosperms (plants with enclosed seeds). Of more than 300 plant families of seed plants, about 150 contain trees.

ASS-OF-PARNASSUS, par-nas'ss, any of a us of perennial plants sometimes grown in 1-flower gardens. The genus is known bo-ically as Parnassia, and it belongs to the frage family of plants usually (Saxifragaceae). The leaves of the plants arise from a basal or sometimes in greatly reduced size along scape, or stalk. The solitary flowers are ne at the tip of the scape.
