Fill A Container:

Fill A Container Habits are irregular; in wild, cockateels walk through grass heavy with dew. Use large container such as large flower pot saucer; fill container with water and place in cage at same time each day in early morning. Remove container after about an hour, whether or not birds have bathed.

As soon as the seedlings can be handled, transplant them into a more suitable compost, leaving enough space for the unrestricted development of the young plants. There should be about 24^-0 seedlings per tray. Fill a container with a good quality commercial compost, and firm to the base with the tips of the fingers. Strike off the compost level with the rim. Lightly firm with a presser board so that the compost is X-%in below the rim of the container.

CONTAINER-GROWN AND BALLED PLANTS Dig a hole just a little larger than the container and slip the plant into this with as little root disturbance as possible. Fill any remaining space with a mixture of peat and broken-down soil. Pot-grown plants can usually be tapped out quite safely by turning them upside down and rapping the rim of the pot sharply on something firm, such as the handle of a spade thrust well into the soil. Carefully hold the plant while doing this so that it does not fall to the ground or snap off. In the case of balled plants and those grown in polythene bags, cut and strip off the covering material with the plant on the edge of, or actually in, the hole it is to occupy.
