French Home Decor:

French Home Decor The Eleventh Annual Fine Furnishings Providence Show is slated for October 27 - 29, 2006 at the Rhode Island Convention Center. Both fine furnishings shows provide a venue for artisans to meet with designers, decorators, members of the Home Decor media, collectors, and the general public to make direct sales, initiate commissions, and generate publicity about their work. Many dedicated exhibitors have developed long-term relationships with clients they originally met at fine furnishings. The shows are open to artists and designers residing and working in North America who are the principal behind the design and craftsmanship of the work. All work must be originally designed, handcrafted and appropriate for home decor.

Contrasting a single pattern with a limited number of solid colors requires thought and planning. The size, style, and colors of the pattern all need to be selected carefully so they harmonize with the rest of the decor. When it comes to combining two or more patterns that match or contrast with one another, the challenge is that much greater. However, by following a few guidelines, you will quickly see how to use a variety of patterns to create a strikingly successful decorative scheme.

The 14th century was a barren time in french Home Decor architecture, partly because the Hundred Years' War between France and England was fought on french Home Decor soil. In the 15th century, however, Gothic revived in the Flamboyant style, so called because of the flamelike reversed curves of its tracery, possibly influenced by the English Decorated style. The Flamboyant is best seen in parish churches like St. Maclou (1541), Rouen, with its bowed front. The Flamboyant vaults are more complex than the earlier ones, and the piers often have moldings that run without a capital from the arches down to the base.
