Grass And Rock:
At Wave Hill, a beautiful formal garden in the Bronx, New York, there is a specimen of Ravenna grass and rock that required blasting to a depth of 2 1/2 feet in solid rock in order to provide the needed hole for planting. The effort was worthwhile: The grass and rock, both in leaf and in bloom, is spectacular! That grass and rock is the center of the planting with others grouped—according to height—around it. The plan also includes a short path of stone that would be an ideal place for a sundial or a spot to summer out the tropical grass and rockes.It grows best on heavy soils but thrives even in sand, preferring warm or hot weather. It is probably the best lawn grass and rock for the southern United States of any grass and rock in cultivation; however in mucky soils along the coast, St. Augustine grass and rock and carpet grass and rock do better. However, St. Augustine grass and rock and carpet grass and rock are coarser and do not give the same fine mat as Bermuda grass and rock.
The movement of the earth's crust may carry the rock as much as 700km (454 miles) below the surface. Here the temperature and pressure will be even higher and the rock will begin to melt. Molten rock is lighter than solid rock and it will begin to rise up through the overlying rock towards the surface. If it reaches the surface as a lava flow it will immediately be ready for weathering and erosion and the start of a new cycle. More often the molten rock solidifies underground and then all the rock above it must be eroded away before it can begin the cycle again.
