They Fan out from a ribbed stem that resembles a stalk of celery. Given good soil and a long growing season cardoons should reach 6 feet by summer's end. One plant can be a focal point standing out with regal splendor from other plants scattered about, and if you have the room, a row of these beauties will make a large and formidable hedge.
