Head Shape: In the late 19th century the shape of the head shape (oblong or dolichocephalic, intermediate or mesocephalic, and round or brachy-cephalic) was very much in fashion as a classifi-catory device. Yet people with oblong and with round head shapes occur in different parts of the world and often have different skin colors, statures, and other traits; the shape of the head shape may also vary quite appreciably in members of the same family. It is now time for the head shape to begin showing the shape of the adult, and the tail begins to be absorbed. At this time the creature is unable to eat because of the changes taking place in the head shape, but the absorption of the tail supplies the necessary nourishment.
head shape DEFORMATION is the practice of altering the natural shape of the human skull by applying pressure to the head shape in infancy. It has been practiced in Oceania, central Africa, Asia Minor, and India, as well as in prehistoric Europe. Probably its most widespread use was in pre-Columbian America. From Peru it spread to northern Chile and Argentina, Ecuador, Colombia, and Mexico. It was practiced by the Pueblo Indians of what is now the southwestern United States and by tribes of the Northwest Coast area, Florida, and Mississippi. Cases of head shape deformation can still be found, but in most parts of the world it is dying out. |
