Hiding The Container: When composing your planting scheme, choose plants with contrasting flower shapes. Masses of tiny blooms, such as sweet alyssum and trailing lobelia, create a hazy effect softening the edges and hiding the container. They contrast well with the larger plants that form the main focus of the container.Habits are irregular; in wild, cockateels walk through grass heavy with dew. Use large container such as large flower pot saucer; fill container with water and place in cage at same time each day in early morning. Remove container after about an hour, whether or not birds have bathed.
As tarantulas need plenty of room to move about in and to hunt food during the night, use small aquarium or handmade vivarium box with screen cover (see Part IV). Fill container two-thirds full of loose soil. Construct retreat by piling a handful of dry leaves mixed with scraps of old, dead bark across one end of habitat; pile up several flat rocks in a way that provides hiding space underneath; place piece of old log with wide crack or deep hole across rocks and leaves. |
