Hold Flower Gatherer: The Baronet Cut and Hold Flower Gatherer makes cutting and holding a flower a one-hand operation. It's 31 inches long and perfect for pruning soft wood, gathering fresh flowers, and removing dead ones. Use it on vines and climbing roses.
The Baronet Firm Grip Weed Puller is designed to grip and pull out the most obstinate weed from cultivated land using one hand. At 34 inches it's invaluable for such work.Sometimes in order to cool the outside of the mass, the gatherer will hold the pipe in a vertical position with the gather at the bottom, meantime slowly rotating the pipe, and will then work the blob of glass into a cylindrical or conical shape by marvering, that is rolling it on a marver (derived from the French marbre, marble, a marble slab). The marver usually is a slab of cast iron machined to a smooth surface and sometimes lubricated with wax or oil.
Others comprising the shop are the servitor, or server, who blows the glass into its basic form, passing it to the gaffer for final shaping and finishing; the gatherer, who is responsible for making the gather of molten glass on the end of the blowpipe and who blows or kneads, or both, the molten mass into a rough shape to pass on to the servitor; the bit gatherer, who takes from the pot the smaller amounts of molten glass necessary for stems, handles, bases or decorative elements and who works with the gaffer at this stage of finishing; the stickup boy, who holds the molten glass for affixing by the gaffer; and the carry-in boy, who receives the finished product and transfers it to the annealing oven. |
