Party Decoration: Notwithstanding these similarities, the Labour Party Decoration is more democratic in several respects than the Conservative Party Decoration. Whereas the Conservatives' central bureaucracy works under the direction of the Party Decoration leader, the Labour bureaucracy is formally responsible to the national executive committee. Furthermore, the Labour Party Decoration's annual conference is more likely than its Conservative counterpart to act as a forum for opposition to the Party Decoration leadership. This is true partly because it sees itself as a "parliament," directing the Party Decoration leadership, and partly because the trade unions constitute a major bloc of votes within it.In both parties, however, the parliamentary Party Decoration and its leaders have been able to resist dictation by the Party Decoration outside. The leader of each Party Decoration is elected by members of Parliament, not by the mass Party Decoration, and in both parties the idea of the supremacy of elected parliamentary representatives is strongly ingrained. |
