Musical Style:
The Carl Nielsen Festival, occurring in Copenhagen the last week in August, features symphonies, and other works, of this noted Danish composer, whose straightforward, cheerful style, devoid of musical tricks, has won steadily increasing acclaim in the musical world.
The Viking Festival, at Frederikssund, offers historical plays, performed by local players, and has been a huge success. It takes place in mid-June.Chord Function. Bach and Handel.—The greatest masters of the late musical baroque period, Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) and George Frederick Handel (1685-1759), are the oldest German composers whose works are played on modern programs. This helps to explain why their names are often coupled, although they were distinctly different in character, musical style, and modes of living. Also. Handel's name is most prominently associated with his choral works, another point which tends to link him to Bach.
