Office Of Price:

Office Of Price Rationing in the United States began a few days after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941, with a temporary freeze on sales of automobile tires until administrative controls could be improvised. Responsibility for rationing was then delegated to the Office of Price Administration (OPA), q.v., an emergency agency that had been established by executive order in April of that year as the Office of Price Administration and Civilian Supply to control prices and rents. Within the next two weeks tire rationing administrators and approximately 7,000 volunteer local boards were appointed, quarters found for them, regulations formulated, and certificates printed; on Jan. 5, 1942, rationed tire sales commenced.

However, any beginning professional or advanced amateur, which includes you if you are reading this book with the intention of making a profit with your camera, should never fail to net at least $25 per wedding for a few hours of work. This does not mean that you should set a price for covering a wedding and then deliver a set of pictures for that flat price. There are much better ways of pricing your work. The flat fee system has two disadvantages. First, naming a price will sometimes cause you to lose the opportunity to do the job simply because someone else quotes a lower figure, and second, a package deal at a fixed price tends to put a top limit on what you can earn on each wedding.

Private gold absorption gathered such momentum that, in March 1968, the monetary authorities of seven leading nations decided no longer to supply gold to the London market out of their own stocks at $35; France had ceased its participation in mid-1967. At the same time, they reaffirmed support for the $35 official price, thus reestablishing a 2-tier price system for gold—that is, the fixed monetary price and the fluctuating price that had existed in private gold markets in the 1940's and 1950's.
