Preserved as a historic shrine is the small, frame house in which was born Andrew Johnson, 17th president of the United States and one of the city's own sons. Johnson is again honored with two other sons of the state, Andrew Jackson and James K. Polk, in a monument in Capitol Square, unveiled in 1948.
