Painted Wood And Painted:
To indicate the extremes to which some leading decorators have gone for the sake of novelty in window treatments, materials such as cowhide, patent leather, painted wood and tin, metal cloths, sheet aluminum and copper, rope, and hand-painted and stencilled silks have been used.For example, suppose you have a new spar 8" in diameter and 40' long. Then (8/12 x 40 x 2.5) -r 500 = 67/500 or approximately Vs gallon (1 pint) for the priming coat. For refinishing work, a pint is enough for about ll/i coats. To determine the requirements for painted spars, change the coverage factor to 325 for new work and to 500 for previously painted wood.
This was a logical consequence, and it was all the more apparent in the way in which some parts of his pictures could be folded out from the surface. The beginning of this development was marked by Picasso's "Constructions", a whole series of musical instruments which had been put together with cardboard, tin, wire, painted wood and painted or corrugated metal. His "Violin" of 1915 (top right) is a good example.
