That Grow On Glass:

That Grow On Glass Give very little direct sunlight; keep in cool location; northeast exposure best. Algae that grow on glass sides of aquarium help reduce light; scrape off from front glass only to allow observation. Can occur in a brief time. Never allow plant or animal matter to decompose. Remove all surplus food immediately after feeding animals. Use long wooden forceps or glass dip tube. Common in tide-pools. Locate one on loose rock small enough to bring in; use Knife to remove from rock, taking care not to injure body. Barnacles: Common along rocky coasts. Grow in colonies on dead shells, on rocks, and on wood. Sometimes found on small loose rocks which can be picked up; otherwise use Knife to remove.

When normal animal cells are cultivated on glass surfaces overlaid by a liquid nutrient medium, they grow and divide. The daughter cells can move away from each other by ameboid motion. When the cells are so numerous that their surfaces come into frequent contact, the population immediately stops growing. Experiments have shown that the contact between cells is responsible for the growth stoppage, a phenomenon described as contact inhibition.

Many small arrangements of plants can be made to beautify the home, such as (1) by a dish garden in which may be planted cacti, aloes, euphorbias, sedums, and echiverias. They should be watered sparingly and given full sunlight. The soil should be light and well drained. Sansevieria, dwarf box, myrtle, and peperomia will grow well in a dish garden; (2) by a terrarium which resembles an aquarium with a glass top. Watering is hardly ever necessary because moisture from the plants condenses on the inside of the glass.
