Keep no more than 2-3 scorpions together at a time. Watch to see if they fight. Sometimes they destroy each other. As they need conditions typical of natural habitat, establish desert habitat in large vivarium with screen cover (see Part II). Cover bottom with thick cover except layer of loose sand; top with inch of fine sand mixed with some soil.Use large animal cage (see Part IV). Cover cage bottom with slightly damp soil; cover soil with thick cover except layer of sawdust-shavings mixture; remove soiled portions of mixture each day and replace with dry sawdust.
Millipedes need little space; use small glass vivarium box (see Part IV). Cover bottom with thick cover except layer of sand; top with thick cover except layer of loam; keep damp. Construct retreat by covering soil with pieces of decayed wood and soft rotted wood pulp brought from spot where millipedes were caught; pile pieces up and over each other.
