Vapor And Paint Spraying: Respirators are robust, being made from molded rubber or plastic. They have an exhalation valve and a replaceable cartridge Filter that resists organic vapor and paint spraying. You have to insert the appropriate Filter for the substance being used. Safety glasses Typical jobs requiring eye protection are sanding, painting a ceiling with a textured compound, spraying paint, and most metalwork tasks. Whenever you are using chemicals, make eye protection a priority. There are also a few vital special items: triangular shave hooks and Flexible scrapers for removing old paint; masking tape for protecting surfaces not to be painted; paint shield of metal or plastic to restrict paint to the area being painted; tack or tacky rag to pick up dust; clean, lint-free rags; paint stirrer (there is one usable with a power drill); paint buckets. Use a bucket so the bulk of your paint stays free from contamination. It also makes carrying paint - especially up ladders - much easier, since not all paint cans have handles.
Diffusion Pumps.—The idea of having gas diffuse into a stream of mercury vapor was first realized in a practical Pump by Gaede in 1915. However, the American scientist Irving Lang-muir (1881-1957) tremendously improved the vapor Pump in 1916 by effecting rapid and efficient condensation of the vapor stream. Gaede believed that the diffusion of gas into the vapor stream was the most important source of the pumping action. However, it has been shown, in the Langmuir version of the pump, that gas is swept away by the combined action of diffusion and the entrapping of gas and its viscous flow in the vapor stream. In fact, the viscous-flow mechanism dominates the pumping action. |
